The Pharmaceutical / Construction Safety Manager will support the delivery of a New Research Center project in Foster City under the direction of the Associate Director. This role is responsible for ensuring all project activities comply with Environmental Health & Safety (EH&S) standards, regulatory requirements, and company policies throughout demolition, construction, startup, and commissioning.
The Safety Manager will work closely with internal EH&S teams, cross-functional stakeholders, external designers, construction partners, owner representatives, and regulatory authorities. The role requires strong field presence, technical expertise, and the ability to adapt to changing project conditions while proactively managing safety programs and workflows.
Support project teams in achieving EH&S objectives across the full project lifecycle
Manage and close assigned EH&S workflows in accordance with established guidelines
Participate in Owner–Architect–Contractor (OAC), design, and project safety meetings
Support environmental permitting processes and waste generation coordination
Coordinate EH&S activities during construction, startup, and commissioning
Review project documentation, RFIs, and safety-related submittals
Review Hazardous Monitoring System (HMS) systems and programming
Perform waste analysis and assist with EH&S program design
Coordinate with internal teams, owner vendors, general contractors, consultants, and regulatory authorities
Conduct regular construction site safety surveys for demolition and new construction of the NCF and surrounding areas
Perform approximately 3–5 site surveys per week, based on construction activity level
Collect, document, and report findings and observations using the ISNet platform
Track trends, identify hazards, and support corrective actions
Compile best practices and lessons learned at project completion
Assist in developing and refining construction and maintenance Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
Participate in safety review meetings related to significant observations or incidents
Coordinate and communicate with key internal personnel regarding project activities and safety concerns
Develop and deliver construction safety orientation training for general contractors and subcontractors
Develop and host safety orientation training for internal employees impacted by shared construction sites
Review Task Plans, Methods of Procedure (MOPs), and Disturbance Avoidance Procedures
Support workflow approvals and ensure required sign-offs by contractors, Facilities, and EHS
Manage and track an anticipated 30–50 disturbance avoidance procedures over the course of the project
Draft construction safety-related technical documentation as requested
Minimum 7+ years of direct construction safety experience
Working knowledge of pharmaceutical safety protocols
OSHA 510 certification required
Advanced knowledge of construction safety standards and best practices
Strong verbal and written communication skills
Proven ability to coach, mentor, and influence teams on construction safety processes
Proficient in Microsoft Office applications
