3M™ Respirators and Surgical Masks | Counterfeit Alerts

April 6, 2021

As 3M™ continues to increase production of critically-needed N95 respirators, they are also fighting respirator fraud, counterfeiting, and price gouging in connection with 3M™ products and the COVID-19 pandemic.

3M™ is working with law enforcement authorities around the world to stop counterfeiting and remove fake products from the market to protect frontline workers fighting COVID-19. Based on year-to-date data as of 3/24/21, over 37,000,000 counterfeit respirators have been seized with over 260 seizures by customs agencies.

Don’t assume that you can tell how well a respirator works just by looking at it. Counterfeit respirators are not tested and approved like authentic 3M™ respirators. Instead, counterfeit respirators are made by unknown criminals, using unknown processes and materials, with unknown or nonexistent quality controls. The best way to avoid counterfeit respirators is to purchase 3M respirators from 3M authorized distributors. Do not rely on 3M authorized distributor certificates, which are often falsified.

3M™ recently issued Counterfeit Alerts for their standard 3M™ Particulate Respirator 8210 (N95) as well as for several surgical respirator models. To view these alerts, please see the links below.
