Health and Safety Best Practices for Subcontractors When Staying Prepared for COVID-19 During the Current Outbreak

HazTek Director of Technical Services Kevin McMahon, CIH, has just had his second article published in The Contractor’s Compass magazine, the official monthly educational journal of the American Subcontractors Association (ASA). Kevin’s article, titled “Health and Safety Best Practices for Subcontractors When Staying Prepared for COVID-19 During the Current Outbreak,” appears in the August issue of The Contractor’s Compass.

In the article, Kevin discusses how the Delta variant of the coronavirus has caused many employers to re-evaluate their approach to preventing further spread of the virus. He also promotes the American Industrial Hygiene Association’s (AIHA) free guidance documents for the workplace and shares that AIHA recently published a series of Back to Work Safely™ Guidance Documents (2nd ed.) for small to mid-size businesses in 27 industry sectors, including the construction industry. Kevin mentions the use of Job Hazard Analyses (also known as Job Hazard Analysis or Task Hazard Analysis) as an important tool for subcontractors to use to help them continuously evaluate their specific needs and apply critical safety practices.

In the article, Kevin stresses that employers should continue to follow the CDC guidelines and monitor the spread of the virus, applying measures that are most effective in preventing the spread at their work sites.
