National Safety Month is observed during the month of June to focus on the leading causes of injury and death at work, on the road, and in our homes and communities — and to provide information that can help reduce and eliminate accidents.

This year, the National Safety Council is observing a different safety topic each week of June. The 2023 weekly topics are:

Week 1 - Emergency Preparedness

This first week of June is also National CPR and AED Awareness Week. When an emergency arises, knowing CPR and how to use an AED can save lives. There’s also a focus on fire escape plans, what to do during power outages, how to handle natural disasters, and preventing workplace violence.

Week 2 - Slips, Trips, and Falls

The second week of National Safety Month focuses on preventing slips, trips, and falls. NSC offers resources for workers on safe ladder use, scaffolding safety, preventing falls through skylights and other openings, and other general tips on reducing these types of injuries.

Week 3 - Heat-Related Illness

Week 3 focuses on preventing heat-related illnesses. You can get resources from NSC on staying safe in the heat while working, how older adults can stay safe in the heat, learning the importance of knowing the UV index, and spreading awareness on children dying in hot cars.

Week 4 - Hazard Recognition

We end safety month with the focus on hazard recognition. NSC offers resources on being alert at all times, avoiding medication mishaps, avoiding gamer’s thumb, preventing clothes dryer fires, and teen driver safety.
