National Safety Month is observed during the month of June to focus on the leading causes of injury and death at work, on the road, and in our homes and communities — and to provide information that can help reduce and eliminate accidents.
This year, the National Safety Council is observing a different safety topic each week of June. The 2024 weekly topics are:
Week 1 – Safety Engagement
We kick off National Safety Month by promoting the importance of safety engagement and focusing on promoting first aid, since the first week of June is also National CPR and AED Awareness Week. NSC also emphasizes the need for safety committees, emergency drills, and training games.
Week 2 – Roadway Safety
The second week of National Safety Month focuses on roadway safety. It’s vital to know the rules of the road and how to share the road safety. Distracted driving is also a major cause for concern and NSC shares articles on how to set up your drive for success.
Week 3 – Risk Reduction
Week 3 focuses on risk reduction on job sites. Some of the major risks that workers face are overdoses, crashes, fall, and overexertion. NSC offers tips on addressing these hazards and preventing them altogether.
Week 4 – Slips, Trips, and Falls
We end National Safety Month by focusing on preventing slips, trips, and falls. NSC offers resources for workers on safe ladder use, scaffolding safety, preventing falls through skylights and other openings, and other general tips on reducing these types of injuries.
