May 2, 2022

The 9th annual National Safety Stand-Down to Prevent Falls in Construction takes place this week, from May 2nd – 6th. Each year, the National Safety Stand-Down is held to raise awareness of the severity of fall hazards in the construction industry and the importance of preventing fall hazards.

Year after year, fall protection and fall protection training continue to appear on OSHA’s list of Top 10 Most Frequently Cited Standards. And, each year, falls from elevation continue to be the leading cause of death for workers in the construction industry. With proper training, hazard elimination, and the use fall protection, these falls can be prevented.

The National Campaign to Prevent Falls in Construction was launched in 2012, with leadership from NIOSH, OSHA, and CPWR. In 2014, the stand-down event was conceived by OSHA as part of the National Campaign to Prevent Falls in Construction and has become the cornerstone of the campaign.
