National Safety Stand-Down | To Prevent Falls in Construction | May 3 - 7, 2021

The 8th annual National Safety Stand-Down to Prevent Falls in Construction takes place this week, May 3 – 7th. Each year, the National Safety Stand-Down is held to raise awareness of the severity of fall hazards in the construction industry and the importance of preventing fall hazards.

In 2012, the National Campaign to Prevent Falls in Construction was launched with leadership from NIOSH, OSHA, and CPWR. In 2014, the stand-down event was conceived by OSHA as part of the National Campaign to Prevent Falls in Construction and has become the cornerstone of the campaign.

Unfortunately, falls continue to be the leading cause of death for workers in the construction industry. In 2019, falls to a lower level accounted for 36.4% of construction deaths. Yet, with proper training, hazard elimination, and the use fall protection, falls can be prevented.
