Women in Construction Week | Spotlight on Margaret “Peg” Neville

March 10, 2021

HazTek Principal Environmental Health & Safety Consultant Peg Neville started her career in safety and risk management early on, earning her Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) license while in high school and working as a Risk Reduction Manager for a Fortune 500 company while in college. She earned a degree in Environmental & Natural Sciences and continued with graduate certificates in Construction Management and Environmental Public Health. With a residential construction background, she became interested in industrial hygiene with a focus on hazard communication for inhalation toxins at construction sites.

Peg has been a licensed Registered Environmental Health Specialist for over twelve years and joined HazTek in 2015. She is a subject matter expert in the industrial and occupational areas of hazard control of asbestos, lead, and silica exposure and she teaches various classes for HazTek clients. Peg’s classes cover topics such as EPA/HUD and NJ Department of Health regulations for lead inspection and risk assessment; Asbestos Hazard Emergency Response Act (AHERA); OSHA Asbestos & Lead Awareness; OSHA Silica Competent Person; Bloodborne Pathogens; Respiratory Protection; and Hazard Communication. Peg has also been teaching several different asbestos classes virtually — via Zoom — for Rutgers School of Public Health – Center for Public Health Workforce Development. In addition, Peg has taught the OSHA 510 course to several of her HazTek coworkers.

HazTek is an EPA-authorized lead training facility and Peg is the Principal Instructor who teaches lead-safe work practices to contractors who need the EPA Certified Renovator Initial 8-hour and Refresher 4-hour training programs. Peg is also a principal instructor for the Lead Inspector / Lead Risk Assessor training class through Rutgers School of Public Health – Center for Public Health Workforce Development.

Peg says, “I have found that moving from the environmental science field into the areas of safety and industrial hygiene has offered me an opportunity to bring a different perspective to the construction industry — imparting an insight into protecting from the jobsite hazards that are often overlooked or invisible and present a delayed impact.”

We thank Peg for all of the hard work and skills that she brings to our organization.
