HazTek Quality Assurance Manager Sue Stager started her career in safety management back in 1985 when she was fortunate enough to meet someone who recognized that her strong work ethic would be a good fit for the US Environmental Protection Agency. Sue began her work with the EPA as a technician — starting from the ground up. She set up training classrooms for 40-hour HAZWOPER classes, filled self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA) bottles, and learned about air monitoring equipment by calibrating the equipment herself. Later, when Sue found that people didn't want to take the time to create health and safety plans, she took it upon herself to write them — thereby immersing herself into the world of safety management.
Sue joined HazTek in 2016 as a Safety Consultant and was promoted to Quality Assurance Manager in 2019. She now oversees over 25 of our Safety Professionals in the Greater New York area.
Sue says, “I’ve had a few favorite jobs over the years and one has been as an instructor for the OSHA 40-hour HAZWOPER course — I love seeing the “light bulb” go off as the participants begin to understand why we do some of the basic safety that we do. I’ve also enjoyed being on responses — from Katrina to a recent 2017 marina spill in Jersey City, New Jersey. My last construction field project, prior to stepping into my management role, was being the Safety Manager for a GC at a large NJ pharmaceutical company. Creating the onboarding orientation and interacting with up to a 100 or so different tradesmen/women throughout the project was amazing.” Sue went on to say, “While not always easy, just seeing the pride behind the work is so gratifying. I love knowing that HazTek and I have been a part of many projects around New Jersey. The pride that I feel for my team and their participation in making sure everyone goes home to their families safely is immeasurable!”
We thank Sue for all of the experience and enthusiasm that she brings to our organization.
